Whatever you do, just don’t go the movies. You don’t get to know them at all.
Maybe go for a picnic or something? Go to the beach? Go for a walk in the park?

Ask him to go somewhere cozy and quiet. Having privacy and having a serene time together could help him ease up or get loose. He might even open up. It’s really hard for guys to show their feelings specially in front of a crowd. And also make him feel that it is OK with you that he is shy however you can also make him feel comfy when you’re with him. Keep it cool. You got something good going on there.

For a first date, you should go somewhere that is not too private and still has enough privacy and quiet that you can actually talk to each other and start to devlop a relationship. A movie or concert is not the best place for a first date, because you are looking at what is is front of you, and it is not the other person. But too much quiet and privacy puts too much pressure on both of you. So a good first date is getting a cup of coffee together at a nice coffee shop, or a dinner or lunch at an interesting but not too expensive restaurant. A visit to a museum or art gallery is good if you both like that kind of stuff, or roller or ice skating if you both know how to skate. A bowling alley or Nascar race is too noisy, but something like a dog show can be fun, because you can talk about the dogs and don’t have to buy anything except admission tickets and maybe a little food. It should be something that both of you already enjoy.
